The ACVPM challenges fellow veterinarians engaged in public practice to improve the strength and breadth of their knowledge in veterinary preventive medicine by pursuing board certification. This experience will enhance personal skills, expand professional expertise, strengthen the specialty of Veterinary Preventive Medicine and ultimately favorably affect the health of mankind and the animal kingdom.

Notes from EVP –

We are well underway in the various activities of the college with a total of 59 candidates for exam at Ohio State University, Thursday-Friday, 12-13 June 2008.  Last year we had 57 new-deferred-retake candidates sit and this year promises to be about the same number.  Interest in the certifying board exam is high and offer acknowledgements with appreciation to all who sponsored, mentored, and otherwise supported various applicants.

Also the Epidemiology Specialty certifying examination will be held on Friday, 18 July 2008 just prior to the AVMA convention in New Orleans at the headquarters Hilton Hotel in New Orleans.  Exact room to be announced.

Also at the same hotel, on the same day, the ACVPM Executive Board will be meeting to discuss the business of the college.  Key officers are President John Herbold (johnherbold@yahoo.com), President Elect Peggy Carter (peggycarterdvm@aol.com), Secretary-Treasurer Candace Jacobs (jacobs.candace@heb.com), and Past President Patty Scharko (pscharko@uky.edu).  With reference to college activities, if you have an issue for consideration, please email same to one of these officers for their review.

The ACVPM will be a cosponsor of the inaugural, One Health - One Medicine program to be held at the AVMA, Marriott New Orleans at the Convention Center, on Monday-Tuesday, 21-22 July 2008.  This promises to be a significant, even historic event that includes 34 speakers from the U.S., Canada and Europe, ranging over a variety of topics focusing on the interrelatedness of human medicine, veterinary medicine, and public health.  It would be a great year to attend the AVMA Convention and be present at this very comprehensive stellar program.  Special credits go to Dr Marguerite Pappaioanou, ACVPM diplomate who organized the program and recently was appointed Executive Director of the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges in Washington DC.

Finally the college operates on dues funds – our fiscal oxygen - so if you haven’t paid for 2008 please do so promptly -- $125 for diplomates and $155 for Epidemiology Specialty diplomates.  Checks to P.O. Box 22219, Clive, IA 50325 and for credit card access Pay Pal, by going to:  http://www.acvpm.org/store.htm.  Please plan to attend AVMA and if I can be of further assistance please contact me at evp@acvpm.org or phone 515 / 331-4439.
