June 2009 ACVPM News Summary

This is my first note as the new Executive Vice President. I only hope that I can be as dedicated and hardworking  as Dr Russ Currier has been. We all hope that he continues to share his stories and will "share a porkchop" with us.

I was certainly excited to attend my first ACVPM examination in Columbus Ohio this week. The candidates seemed well prepared and we all hope that everyone passes! The venue for the exam was fantastic – thanks to Dr. and Mrs. Gary Bowman, Dr. and Mrs. Russ Currier, and many others behind the scenes who did a huge amount of work making this exam run smoothly. We had many compliments! Representatives from the Examination Committee Dr. David Goolsby and Dr. Scott Brooks helped proctor the examination. The Examination Committee provided a challenging exam (to say the least) and now have the privilege of grading them! I also want to recognize our member proctors who took valuable time out of their busy schedules to help us with the exam. Dr. Armando Hoet, Dr. John Gibbins, Dr. Charles Neer, and the staff at The Ohio State University.

The college is now gearing up for the AVMA convention in Seattle where we hope to see many of our members. The General ACVPM meeting is scheduled for Sunday June 12, 2009 in the Cirrus Meeting Room from 3 to 5pm followed, in the same room, by a Social Hour from 5-7pm. I hope that everyone will be able to come and I hope that you will introduce yourself to me so I can begin putting faces with all the names. We also welcome those of you who may not be members but are interested in the College and all we do so please come!

On a more official note, please send in your dues as soon as possible, or you will owe twice as much in a few months!! Fortunately most of our members have turned in their dues and looking at those who have not I think it's due to new emails or incorrect address information. I am therefore going to start trying to update that information. If you have not done so in the last year or if you plan to move or change any of your profile information please go into the website and make those changes for us. We are going to launch a new website soon and would like to have all of the information as current as possible.

I am really looking forward to my new position as Executive Vice President. The College and I welcome your continuing support!!!

Candace L McCall DVM, MPH, Dipl ACVPM
